I see 3 for completely different issues.

T1. $50 an hour. A reduced rate or sliding scale for my low income.
T2. $200 an hour. He's the only one in his specialty in this area.
T3. $10 after public insurance.

There was a recent thread and poll on this. If you do a search it should come up.

It didn't come up. What was the title? Maybe I picked the wrong words to search. I could have done it wrong since I'm new to this website.

$85 an hour these days. Less than half her full fee, but it is as much as I can comfortably afford.

Don't know ... Don't Care ... Insurance plan covers 100%.

Wasn't this way early on, though, and I struggled like hell to piecemeal it together, even having one therapist kick me to the curb while I was still in crisis because insurance I had at that time ran out and she refused to do sliding scale.

I feel for peeps who are still in that boat ... It ain't right!

She charges $125, insurance allows $78, and I pay a $15 copay. I wouldn't mind paying more as I think that insurance should allow the full $125 - they have a one-size fits all approach, which means that someone who just earned his/her PhD gets the same amount as someone who has been in the profession for 30 years (mine has been practicing almost 25 years).

Either $14 or $18 depending on session length. For some reason, longer sessions are $14. Bizarre, but whatever.

If I had to pay real money, I'm pretty sure I would have quit after 2 or 3 sessions. No, scratch that, I probably never would have gone.

I'm irritated by the way many insurance companies "dismiss" mental health care.
Thanks for this!

To be fair, insurance companies tend to pay every type of provider less than what he or she charges upfront. The last time I went to a doctor, he tried to bill my insurance over $400. Doctor's visits are usually billed at less, but I guess he charged that much because he ran a bunch of different tests on me because my symptoms were troubling. Insurance gave him $200 of that. I am not sure what my insurance gives mental health providers. I only knew about the $400 bill because my dad called me and was like, "I'm looking at my insurance statement, and what the heck did you go to a doctor for that he charged $400?!" As a side note, I hate that my dad can see every provider I see since it's his insurance. I don't really want him to know if I'm seeing a psychologist or how often I see a gynecologist.

T's sessions are $150 per 50 minutes. I pay a $15 copay per visit. She's worth MORE than her weight in gold...

300$ per 90 min session. Here there is no insurance which would cover something as "silly" as psychotherapy, so I pay everything out of pocket.

My T doesn't take insurance. She charges $170/60 min. I pay her in full and then submit to my insurance company. My insurance pays 80%. So technically I pay $34/session.

my t is saying he will work with me on a sliding scale. he asked me what i can afford. his normal rate is $110 an hour. but he knows i am poor and cannot pay that. i am having a hard time trying to tell him a number bc i dont want it to be too low and i dont want him to think i think hes not worth the money. i find it awkward talking about the money.
