Have you done both and which do you prefer? I am currently in CBT and my therapist recommends shifting to DBT. I am eager to learn more about myself through this process and want to know about your experience and how it helped with your condition.

I found that DBT skills were a million times better for me.

I see a CBT counselor now. I have never tried DBT. I'm not sure how I feel about the CBT yet. It kind of feels like the therapist just told me to go do things as if I could magically run off and do things I've been avoiding for years. I'm early in therapy and willing to stick with it for a while longer, though. I like the therapist, but I'm not sure if he will actually help.

I like a mix of both. I lean toward the DBT philosophy but only because it addresses my specific issues. I need flexibly so any T who is too by the book in either approach wouldn't appeal to me. It's nice to have some supportive, straight up talk therapy in there too I think.
