Sometimes it helps my mood to list "good things." I invite you to tag along and add to my list.

Good things:

Cloud shadows tumbling, racing each other across a corn field, twirling in a "shower" of falling leaves, puppy breath, the jingle from the ice cream truck, listening to the distant reassuring buzz of a small plane during afternoon nap, blanket forts, planting a watermelon seed and expecting it to grow, realizing my daughter's first two teeth could be used as a "lethal" weapon , Fizzies.

Your turn.

The school term ends in two weeks and then I have 3 weeks off! I used my credit card to book a trip to Hawaii spur of the moment and am excited! Feel lucky that I have come out of symptoms of various things enough to start trying to enjoy life a little. Totally appreciative of an amazingly good and devoted shrink. Same about my partner of 30 years. Glad I've finally found a career that I believe in. Learning how to take little steps to improve my physical condition and being patient.

"When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad. . ."

I like to plan things, list things, organize things, read things, write things, get a hug from my husband.

Today I wrote my therapist a calm, happy email, one of few recently. More chatting than spewing anxiety, nice change.

Today, I get a manicure and a peek-a-boo highlight with my daughter to mark the start of the school year. I just started doing this last year, it's still very exciting to me, that little splash of color.

Today, the sun is bright and shining on the lemon-yellow leaves of my cherry tree, they're turning as fall approaches.

Today, my husband made me waffles.

Today, I get to finish about the... 13th course of 21 needed for my new degree: I'm really on track to getting this done, wow.

And am sneaking a chocolate bar while I sit here preparing to write my final paper, ah the joys of adulthood, ha.

Oh, and SLEEP!!!! How could I ever almost forget: I have gotten a lot of sleep for two nights in a row, nearly miraculous.
Thanks for this!

Leah, sounds great. What degree are you doing, if you don't mind my asking?

Time off and a spur of the moment trip to Hawaii sound amazing, good for you! I'm hoping to take a vacation like that when I finish my degree in the spring.

I'm getting my degree in journalism. Have a few years freelance writing experience and a couple years student-reporting along w/some other useful skills, am hoping to parlay them into a local news reporting gig. Untangling the truth for a living.

People have such cool things that they notice. It reminds me of my mindfulness practice and also my past as a haiku writer where noticing odd little things was part of the art. Speaking of writing, thanks Leah for responding. That's great to hear. I asked because it's nice to know that there are other students here. It makes a difference in the way we live. I did a small amount of journalism for an online place called Patch. I think many places have a Patch. I taught myself how to use a camera, but mainly my focus was on writing. I did more human interest type stories than hard news, but enjoyed it. Relentless pace compared to my other writing practices. Now I'm teaching myself creative non-fiction.

What color highlight? I'm a dork. I kinda want pink and blue like Wild Style from the Lego movie.

Haha, that sounds awesome, you should go for it!

This time, I got indigo. Very pretty if I do say so myself. My daughter got gorgeous vibrant shades of turquoise and teal, peacock colors.
