I've decided to end therapy- have been on a break and feel certain this T is not the right one for me. Should I just leave a message? I don't want to spend a session sounding critical or accusing, and I'm pretty sure I need to move on. Is an in-person last session really valuable? Thoughts on why its a good thing to do and/ or wish you hadn't bothered?

Thanks.

How long have you been seeing them? I don't think there's a right answer here but especially if you were still just trying it out I don't think you need to have a final appointment.

I would not go in person. I would call and leave a message. I see no reason for me to pay them to tell them I am not coming back.

I would just call and leave a message thanking he/she for helping but you have decided to take a break. T's are use to clients doing this.

After 11 months, I have the kind of relationship with T that I would like to end it healthily and in person. If you don't feel you clicked then you don't owe them anything. Call and leave a message.
Thanks for this!

I would probably end therapy in person, if the therapy did indeed help. If not, use the phone if you want...

I'm in the "it's not worth paying to tell T you're not coming back" camp.

I think that if you've been seeing the T long enough to feel like you've got something out of it, or you feel like you need some sort of closure - doing a final session can be helpful. But if you were just trying out this T and it didn't click, it's fine to move on.

Good luck!
