How did you find your T? Personal recommendation? A directory?

I'm looking to branch out from Psychology Today.

I was referred to the agency via 211 (infoline).
Ones before I found via web search for sliding scale in my area. I've also gone through my insurance provider's list of people back when I had insurance. I've never actually found anyone off psychology today or other referral service.
Thanks for this!

I found mine through a coworker. I think she found her through our insurance program. Cold calling based on location, essentially.

Found her profile on Psychology Today, sent her an email asking for a phone consult. She replied back to the email and set up a time to talk on the phone. At the end of the phone call, I made an appointment.

My GP had prescribed me 6 months worth of Prozac and told me to stop taking it after 6 months. I was close to running out and felt I needed more so I called a community health centre to ask for a second opinion and told them a bit about myself. I was asked to call back a couple days later after their board meeting, as they had to discuss my file and decide whether they'd take me on or not.
When I called back I had been assigned to my now Pdoc/T as they felt she was the most able to help me.
Thanks for this!

Referred to the practice by family doctor. Practice assigns T based on intake information.

Reputation.. I knew of one of the original founding Ts and decided to call and make an appt. I got an appointment with a T I had not heard of, saw him 4 times and he went away on medical leave for awhile, so I just ended up with my T that I have now because he was the first one that had an opening in his schedule.

I called local mental health clinic in sheer desperation and told the issue I am having and said I need ASAP, they said they have a T who sets her own schedule and ask her to call me. She called right away and I saw her the next day. That's how it started, she is very good.

Right off my insurance provider list. Narrowed it down to my town, wanted a male therapist, played eenie-meenie-minie-mo from there, and Viola! Only one I interviewed and have stuck with him for over 10 years.
Thanks for this!

I just did a google search for T's in my area and started scrolling. Yeah, I ended up on Psychology Today (which I'd never heard of). I knew I wanted a female older than me, and one who was convenient to drive to. I contacted her via Email, and we talked back and forth while trying to fit me into her schedule. So didn't hear her voice for the first time until my first session. We hit it off right away. She was the second T I contacted, the first one I saw. I'm so glad I found her.
Thanks for this!

My pdoc gave me a list of names, I was researching them on psychologytoday.com and stumbled upon my t's profile, called her and one of pdoc's names and only my t called me back (the other one never did, who knows why). Just as well, since I clicked with current t immediately and haven't looked back. She's awesome!!!
Thanks for this!

I was assigned my current T when I was in a day treatment program for eating disorders. At the time I had a different individual therapist. Working with my current T in the day program showed me what a good T truly looked like. I was sent away to IP and went I got back, I switched to her.

I also met my pdoc when she was covering at the day treatment program, and when I switched to current T, she recommended that I switch to current pdoc.

I <3 my team!

Narrowed down from a list from my insurance provider. Picked a clinic based on location and information available on their website. Then, by luck, got a great t th hat I was able to stay with for 13 yrs. She referred me to my new t who is in the same building. New t seems even better than old t.
Thanks for this!

Acess and crisis line gave me 3 referrals that accept my insurance. I googled all 3. One looked like an angry woman, one had no information, and the other looked really nice. Tried the one that looked nice first. She's been my T since

Psychology today. Narrowed it down to ~5. She was the first one I contacted via email. She replied within a few hours and we set up a phone consult. Filled out paper work in the next 2-3 days. Scheduled first appointment in the next 2 weeks. She's been my T ever since.
