Hi, Im 25. Im pretty sure I have ADHD, and a couple of commorbid disorders. Is there a general Idea of how to find a really good therapist/clinic, where they really will care about what they do and not just give me diagnosis, prescriptions...and thats it? Thank you in advance for advice. And please, if you dont really have anything helpful to say please keep going. Tired of halfwitted comments. LEARN ABOUT ADHD!!!

Maybe you can look up reviews of clinics online. Otherwise, it's a referral from someone who has knowledge of the clinic or trial and error.

As for the best treatment for ADHD...I won't say my advice because you don't want to hear it.

A medical doctor, like a psychiatrist, will almost always be focused on medication treatment, so if you are trying to avoid a medical approach obviously steer clear of that (although a combination of medication and behavioral skills may work best depending on how much your symptoms impact you). My middle son has ADHD, but he is only a year our of high school, so we haven't sought out treatment beyond the medication treatment he took until a few years ago and the educational help he received while in school. At this point, he's doing well without needing further treatment.

Fortunately for him/us, our therapist has a behavioral focus AND actually has ADHD himself, so he was very helpful and personally understood the challenges our son faced daily, not just educationally, but throughout his life. You might see if you can find a therapist with that kind of background, although I'm not sure how to tell you to go about doing that. Our T just kind of fell into our lap already having that background; we did initially seek him out for that background.
Thanks for this!

Well, thank you very much, lolagrace!) That's a very helpful tip. I will definitely look for a specialist who has ADHD themselves. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A psychiatrist will prescribe you meds but don't do therapy. If you'd rather just do therapy and learn techniques/skills to cope, then look for a therapist who has a specialized interest in ADHD. My son has ADD and saw a psychologist for a few years before we all (including him) agreed he needed meds in addition to the behavioral interventions. But she is a psychologist and left it up to us to make those decisions. There was no pressure which felt refreshing.
