Has anyone tried out www.betterhelp.com?
Its sort of like live person, only its a chat/email set up. You pay $35 a week, or $140 a month for unlimited e-mails with a licensed counselor. Plus one 20 minute phone call a month included in the price. The only limitation is the speed with which your matched therapist responds. What do you guys think? I want to try it, but the T I got matched with said its unethical to talk to me bc I already have a T. |

I personally believe that therapy is diminished by phone/skype/email etc. (My main T started in person and is now by phone--a lesser experience.)
Short term, it may be a good way to figure out what you want to do re your current T. It may be a good transitional tool. Just be sure you are talking to someone licensed and legit. |

If it sounds interesting, why not try it and see.

My current t started in-person (saw her in person for a year) and then she moved and we've done phone sessions for 2+ years now. In my experience, I don't think it's diminished the therapy itself overall. Okay you've all seen my posts where I lament missing HER so much - I won't deny that - but I don't think that my missing her has hampered me making progress in therapy. I like to pretend it does, in my drama-queen moments, but... honestly, I don't think missing her has hurt my therapy at all. Methinks even that every time I get myself through a period of missing her, mostly by thinking outloud on the dear t thread, I grow up a little bit more emotionally.
Having said all of that - I really honestly don't know how I would feel about working with a therapist I never had any in-person contact with. I agree with SD, if it sounds interesting to you, why not try it. I read a little bit on the site and doesn't seem like there's any long-term commitment expected up front. You can always try it for even just one week and then quit if it doesn't look like it will work for you. |

If you're interested why not try it out? You can always stop if you don't like it. If they won't talk to you because you already have a T maybe you can say you are terminating.
