I see a counselor once a week. I called my insurance to ask how many sessions I am allowed and they said I get 12 hours. I feel bad now because I've been going weekly for 5 or 6 months now. Is she not getting paid for my visits?

Hi and welcome to Psych Central!

I am thinking that your insurance is paying for your visits. If it wasnt, then you would likely be getting bills from the office demanding payment for the services.

I hope you find Psych Central a welcome and supporting place. Welcome to the group!
Thanks for this!

Usually the insurance company approves a standard number of sessions, after which the therapist has to request more and justify the reason for them. They know what to say to get the approval, in most cases. I hope it's working for you.

I'm sure if she wasn't getting paid she would let you know. Usually the therapist can request more sessions and sometimes insurance will grant that request.
