I asked T today whether when she's not working and socialising, did she find she still anaysised people?
T said that not really because she's in a different head frame.
She asked me why I asked that? I said I just thought it would be difficult not to.
She said, we'll of course we can't forget what we know. But you'd be surprised just how little we do analyse people outside the therapy setting.
Thanks for this!

My husband is a therapist and so are many of his friends.i used to be too intimidated by them when we would have dinner together... However, they just werent in that frame of mind to do so, and my husband says most therapist take off their therapist hat just because they need a break and dont want people to feel uncomfortable.i have never felt like i was being analyzed by any ofthem except for one time by his best friend when we first met, but he was so kind about the things he said (and it wasnt anything personal- just things he picked up on about how i am). my husband does not analyze people unless he is at work.
Thanks for this!

I agree with the comments so far. Just want to add that it's not like Ts have superman x-ray vision either. Some people really seem to think that after you talk to a therapist for 2 minutes the person knows everything about you. That's not true. Reminds me of a girl in my psych class in college. She overheard a guy talk for a minute and left. She turned to me and said, as if sharing a diagnosis, He got mommy issues.
