Hi,

I really need help here.
It'd take too long to explain but, to sum up,
Possible trigger:

So when I was in my normal mood I went to see a psychiatrist, told her about my life (which was difficult cause I just can't talk much IRL) it was pretty awkward and stressful, which was bad for me.

I had, like 3 other appointment with her, and nothing changed.
I mean, it became worse but not because of her, because of me, you know.

I talked about having "tests" she said she'd try to give me an "anxiety" test even if its pretty obvious I have it.
What I wanted was to be diagnosed for other stuff, which I highly probably have and which I NEED to know if I have them.

And I really want to be diagnosed, but by who and how to explain that to them?
I told a psychologist I needed to "qualify" myself of something, she just replied that I shouldn't.
But I really feel like I need to, to "heal".

Please, is my psychiatrist a good one, or was she supposed to diagnose me?
Possible trigger:
, now that I am in a good mood (kinda) I really think I need help.

Thanks

The psychiatrist I have diagnosed me after my first session and told me what he thought. My T did the same thing. Many times they don't offer up the info because some Ts don't like the idea of labeling. Still if you ask, they should give you an answer. It's possible you don't have whatever you may think you have. It's not as easy to be diagnosed with a lot of mental illnesses as it seems like it would be by reading online. Things may work differently where you live, but here it is a patient's right to know.
Thanks for this!

It sounds like you are perhaps searching for an answer as to why you feel the way you do, and hoping that a diagnosis will give you an answer? Seeing a therapist might help you to explore why you feel the way you do? I'm not sure that psychiatrists usually do much except give pills. As to whether your psychiatrist should have given you a diagnosis - I think sometimes they are reluctant to label people, and a good one might see a patient as an individual with unique problems that don't necessarily fit into any one diagnostic category. Hope you are doing ok.
Thanks for this!

Personally I would not want a psychiatrist to diagnose me straight off. Psychiatric diagnoses take time to determine, and a patient is always more complex than a simple label. I would view it as a good sign that she wants to wait until she has seen the results of the tests.

Please tell her if you are not safe, though. You need to get adequate help for that.

I waited a while before asking. Six months I think. He said it was depression. And anxiety. I asked if I had BPD etc and he said no. I asked how did he know. He said I didn't fit the patterns of behaviour. So I guess they get to know you after a while.

I think a lot of times mental health people who can diagnose are too quick to do so and usually this is due to having to satisfy some insurance company's requirements for someone getting treatment. I think there should be testing or more time for a professional to gain insight needed to make a correct diagnosis. That said a diagnosis doesn't mean that much. You're a whole person and should be treated as such and not just as some code in a book.

Thanks for replying,

I get that psychiatrist etc don't really like to diagnose cause it's not easy but as you said, I want to know why I'm feeling like that.

And I know I may not have all these mental illnesses but I wanna be sure.

It's like having a physical disease, being treated (or not) for it but never knowing what it is, you know.

growlycat Hope you find answers too.
