I've been considering getting another T. I don't feel connected at all with my current T but I need to continue with her (or someone in her practice) in order to continue with my pdoc. I read so many threads here about relationships with Ts and I realize how completely disconnected I am from mine. I border on disliking her. She listens but does little else, a lot of times she talks about her life and the lives of her friends rather than focusing on me. Maybe that sounds self centered but I figure I'm paying her, she should at least listen to what I have to say. Anyway, just wondering how many people have more than one T and if you do, do your Ts know you have more than one?

I only have one. Most T's want to know if you have another.

I did consult with another T. on an issue surrounding transference and my current T.. I only saw her once and told my T. about it a few months later.

Sounds like you definitely need to switch. You could also ask her to stop talking about herself.
Thanks for this!

I see two. I did not ask their permission and would not change even if they had objected. I do not discuss them with each other and it is frankly none of their business whether I do or do not. I did tell them I was doing it but it was never discussed past that. I did not feel I had to tell them and did not do so because of the therapist's feelings on the matter at all. I had my own reasons for telling them.

I left my last T and pdoc under bad circumstances which I really wish weren't the case because I felt much more comfortable with them. I really don't know how to handle a switch or addition. This **** is so hard sometimes.

I have had T and then a marriage T for my husband and myself... I will at some point in the future have a T for EMDR and stay with my regular t, but that will only be short term. I know that there are others around here with two ts and I am not sure of their reasons. However, in your case.. if you feel like you are missing out a relationship or a connection with your t, maybe find another t in the same practice as your pdoc if that is possible. I think keeping your current T just so you can see your pdoc, seems like a waste of time for your current T and money for you honestly.

I have one T and a pdoc. But with the pdoc it's mostly about medication and I don't see him often.

I don't recall having more than one at the same time (unless short overlap to switch). Once I had a Pdoc and a T but Pdoc did not give therapy, just med management.

I see my T, my pdoc (who I do a sort of pseudo-therapy with) and a nutritionist. It works for me.
Thanks for this!

I see a t and a pdoc, I'm currently finishing up an overlap with an old t and a new t but don't see two at a time normally.

I see a T, a marriage counselor (MC), and a p-doc, all in the same practice. I have met individually a couple times with MC, but it was to address transference issues. My T was fine with me seeing him a couple times. However, she said if I continued to see him on a regular basis as well as her, it could be problematic because it would be a duplication of services (she meant in terms of me seeing them both, not because T is our marriage counselor). But I'm not sure if that's because they're in the same practice.

Are there any other Ts in the practice you could see instead?
Thanks for this!

When I was contemplating leaving t1, I saw both for a few weeks. T2 knew about T1, but T1 did not know about T2. I don't see an issue having more than one, though some Ts have issues with it. I wouldn't feel obligated to disclose.

Every once in a while I contemplate consulting with another T. Usually around what I can't talk to t2 about (transference and the like).

I probably could but I'd feel bad telling my T I wanted to switch. I'm such a wimp with that stuff. It'd be easier to just terminate but I can't. I don't want to switch my pdoc or rather there aren't any pdocs accepting new patients around here. I go to therapy once a week but I could do every other week with each T if I did get a 2nd and then I wouldn't have to pay anything extra. I don't know what to do.
