Yeah - i used to use the excuse of theyre italian. But my aunts and uncles went to parents nights at school and talked to teachers, and they went to church, and they had morals. They werent all bonnie and clyde like my parents. So its not even necessarily compared to today - how do they compare to normal humans?

Hi couch!! I am battling with my guilty conscious about using sick time tomorrow in order to go meet with t. Part of me says, if she isn't willing to work around my schedule, then I shouldn't bother. But the other part of me says dam it I want to see her one last time, and she'll BE here tomorrow, so I should do whatever it takes to make it work!! Meh. Stupid work ethic.

Hmm, normal in public and messed up behind closed doors. This wasn't my parents btw, this was me and the stbx...
There's a lot I'm not proud of.
I don't think generation necessarily has anything to do with it. Social norms change, abusive behavior does not.

Take the sick time Art. Do it for you and don't feel guilty about it. You owe it to yourself. Who comes first anyway? You or your job?

You're not usually sarcastic, so I took you at face value.

Try using the smilies. is a good one for sarcasm.

I think what is considered abuse where children are concerned has changed.

I love this from Austin Powers:

Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist (Carrie Fisher): Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.
Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

Yes, I can see you feel that way. I'd like to think though, that there are some things that are just plain wrong.

I'm supposed to!!! I know this... my h always tells me I put too much importance on my job. I don't know how to do anything else... this may be the perfect time to practice.

The weird thing is that there may be something going around anyway - 4 out of the 13 people in our group of newbies called in sick today. And they knew they wouldn't get paid for yesterday's holiday if they called in sick today, so I assume they are actually sick.

Okay Stopdog, now I'm imagining something like this:

SD:my childhood was quite inconsequential

SD's T: tell me anyway.

SD: *insert Dr. Evil quote*

SD's T: !!!

SD: What? It was the 60's!

I had no idea - I hate the little picture things so much -I just ignore them. I particularly hate the blinky moving ones.

Chances are good they just wanted to extend their long weekend. Until recently I never really noticed how little care people often have for their work. I'm kinda like you, I agonize about taking time off - but that's not healthy really. I've gotten a lot better about it thankfully. I used to tie myself in knots over a few hours here and there... Nobody else I worked with worried about their time like that. Why should I?

Yes, but not because of that.
And I am not a megalomaniac even though I really really want to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

Eh, I roll my eyes in real life all the time. I remember one of the advocates at the shelter saying that only unhappy people roll their eyes. I was quite insulted. Sarcasm is is the highest form of humor in my opinion.
