Most of the therapists I have seen have had their own therapy. (maybe they all have but I haven't asked them all) Personally, I think all ts should have to go thru personal therapy before becoming a t.

T's that did 'strange rituals'. Said really, really hurtful and stupid things. Yah, I'm a little vague on public forums

Yes she has. I never asked her she offered the information at one point when I was really struggling with the idea of taking psych meds and being on therapy add I felt it was a sign of weakness. She has been a couple of different times hard apart

I don't know, I've never ask her. She might have to go to therapy sometimes, as part of her job. My T doesn't look like she would need therapy or at least not for severe issues. But you never know.

Oh yeah she said she still is so that "I keep my stuff out of your stuff."

Mine has been in therapy for depression and suicide ideation. She isn't always "quite right" so I would venture to say she should still be in therapy.

I finally can answer my own question. I asked CBT T if he ever went through his own therapy, training or otherwise. He said he went through therapy twice but he was cagey about the second round if it was for training or not.
I also managed to ask him questions about his own therapy and his experience in it. I wanted to see if he knows what it is like for me (and by reading PC, some others too.) He was off the mark and not answering my question --maybe he didn't understand what I was getting at? I asked--When you were in therapy, did working with your therapist bring out any strong reactions or emotions in you? First, he thought I was asking if he found therapy helpful. Not the question. So I asked again. Then he said that it helped him slow down his thoughts enough to work on an issue. Again, not what I was going for. Then I told him how therapy makes me feel really needy and often raw after sessions. To the point where I'm still thinking about it days afterwards. That it brings old old stuff, that to finally have someone care and listen is something I had been starving for growing up. So frustrating that he could't relate at all, yet it was clear he was trying. I want to start another thread about this I think. |

Thanks Allheart. Do you mean that he didn't want to discuss his own therapy or maybe talking about my experience is something he is not interested in?
