My therapist is wanting to go back to Choice Theory but I don't think that is going to help me. What should I do?

WTF? I guess he's never meet someone who suffers from schizophrenia or someone who battles with bipolar or someone who is in the midst of psychosis. Really?

I doubt people choose to be raped or robbed or be hurt, so I doubt I could read anything that tells me I chose to be depressed or anxious. I can choose to do something about it and try to get better. That's as far as it goes for me.

I think it's talking about choosing a behavior. Not choosing the illness or condition etc at least how I understand it?

Like I am very anxious opening my bills and often even paying them. I don't choose to feel this way. But I can still manage to open them despite the anxiety, that's s choice.

But I agree some behaviors cannot be chosen no matter how much you want it. Some mental illnesses make it nearly impossible.

You can try it as long as it's not extreme like telling you everything is a choice

Yikes. I don't know what your history with this therapist is. If you've found him/her helpful in the past, can you just say that you don't want to include Choice Therapy in your treatment? Another option would be to find another therapist. Never fun, I know.

Even if there's some value to Choice Therapy (not saying there is) it sounds like the kind of philosophical question you might mull over after you've gotten a bit better and if you have the luxury of being in therapy for a long period of time.

Definitely not something to help you if you're having a really tough time right now.

Did your therapist give a reason for why he/she wants to use this therapy technique?
