I had a funny experience with my MH nurse today. He came in to meet me in the waiting room at the same time a colleague of his greeted a client. My MH nurse looked at me and raised his eyebrows in a subtle way to let me know I could come in (I replied with a nod and raised eyebrows to let him know I understood), while his colleague and her client greeted each other with a loud "Hi! How are you! ". My MH nurse and I found it funny that we had such different ways of greeting one another. It was such a stark contrast, and quite interesting to watch.
How do you and your t greet one another? My t and offer each other a big smile and friendly "Hi ... T/TWF". She offers me a drink (water, tea, coffee) and I always say no thank you (unless it's very hot outside). |

He usually bounces in with a big smile and says "would you like to come through now?" He's like that most of the time. A couple of times it was a bit different. Once was after I got mad and walked out. But after what I said last month, you have no idea how reassuring it was for me that he still greeted me so nicely. Not like I was the grottiest slug. It's not anything I've done, I just feel so dirty and ashamed. And for him not to treat me differently was the best thing. Means I can feel safe again.

He's kind of a quiet greeter as far as the waiting room goes. He just opens the door, catches my eye, and says, "Chris." More personal greeting happen on our way down the hallway and once we get to his office.

I'm usually greeted with a big, happy hug and laughter. We always seem to chuckle at each other for no reason when we meet up, as well as on the phone. Weird.

T: at her practise there isn't a big waiting room. She comes in and says ''hi'' with a smile. Sometimes it's ''hi, come on in'' or ''Hi, come on in. I'm going to get some water, do you want some too?'' Sometimes she also comments on something like the weather or something in the room.
Pdoc: the waiting room is a little bigger there. Usually he comes out of his office and waits for me to come to him. He says ''hi'' and gives me a handshake. I think he also says ''come on in'', but I can't remember that clearly. My T seems a bit more casual to me and Pdoc seems more reserved or something. T just goes into her office and I go after her, sometimes I go in first, sometimes I close the door, sometimes she. Pdoc always let me go in first and then he goes in and closes the door. |

I think she says "Hi X" but I am not certain. She may be silent. I get there right on time and her office door is open and I go in, shut the door and sit on her horrible couch. It takes a few minutes for the pounding in my head to go down so I can hear.

Us too. We usually make some stupid joke or rhyme and groan about it. We will greet each other in french italian spanish or yiddish or some combination of the above and he will throw in swedish. Yesterday i was walking in just as the previous guy was walking out, still talking, and t just yelled, "Next!" and we all laughed. Usually my appointment is before the previous guy but i changed it to later.

I can usually hear her walking down the hallway and I'm generally the only one in the waiting room so I know it's her. I look up from my phone and she says "Hey, Laxer". Depending on my mood I'll either say hey, hey how's it going, or just not say anything. I then walk to her office first, we've been going back and forth on rooms so I'll hesitate at the first one unless she tells me beforehand. She'll then close the door as I sit down and ask me how I'm doing or how my week went. Same thing, every time.

She says 'Oh, you again. Taking a hint is not your strong point is it?".
Just kidding, she says 'Hello Ebenezer come in', and I say 'Hello Ermintrude, lovely weather for it". |

I typically meet at her home office. When I get there the door is typically open a bit (screen door is closed). When I open the door she says come on in and am greeted by her dog whom I talk to a bit. As we walk into the office part of her home we make small talk. The dog usually sits with me and we then we always start by talking about how I am doing.
When we meet at her other office, it is on the second floor. Usually she is the only person that is left in the building and she knows my walk. She will say "not" come on up. She is usually sitting in her chair and I go sit down and we start talking about whatever.

My T's waiting room is like a foot from her door. She smiles and says hello and then we both walk into her office.

She just says "hi Scarlet". Or "Come on back". Then when we're walking she always asks how I'm doing and I usually complain about the other people airing their dirty laundry in the waiting room

I press the buzzer outside her practice, usually about ten minutes late because I am hopeless, and then I walk up the stairs and into her office. She's usually standing there with her door open waiting for me to come through. Then I sit down, apologise for being late AGAIN, we chuckle about it because really, it's old news, and then she asks, "So what feels important to talk about today?" or something along those lines.

Says, "Hi dollar sign!" and gives me a huge hug. Heehee.
To be serious, mine have often been pretty low-key. Just saying hi and smiling, waiting for me to speak. Barely memorable. But I've been okay with it. Except early on. I wanted more affection, even a bit of touch. So it felt distant. But later it was just right in terms of what made me comfortable. |
