For anyone who has signed a release of information so that your therapist and another professional can communicate:
Does your therapist tell you when s/he has spoken to the person(s) with a release? |

You can put any stipulations/restrictions you want on that release. Including, you can ask both of them to tell you when they have spoken. You can rescind the release at any time.

Mine always did. In fact, I was usually in the room and they were on speaker phone. I didn't even have to ask for that; they wanted me in on their discussions and have always been very transparent with me.

Thanks. It helps to know.
I wish there were as much transparency with the ones I've seen as you've had, Lola. |

Actually I was thinking about posting a similar question on the same topic. To answer yours, I have been told by both my therapists that they're planning to talk. I haven't seen either of them since, but I imagine they will tell me when they do.
My question is, how much typically gets shared during such consultations? In other words, I am sort of hoping this could be a shortcut so I don't have to go through the agony of telling the second therapist certain things I was barely able to tell the first. The first I have only seen since early this year, so it is not like there is scads of material to cover. It's a bit cowardly of me, but it would be easier. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I've signed one. I think. I can't remember what things I signed. I didn't care at the time.
She hasn't told me if she has spoken to another proffesional about me. I should ask. I want to know if she would do that and if she does, I want to know before she does it. There are only my GP and pdoc. I know she send my GP a short note on what we do, he asked for that because he's my docter. I'm fine with that, I don't see him often. But I rather don't have that she speaks to pdoc. I want to decide what he gets to know about me. |

I just got clarification from someone that I had given a release to. Apparently, my therapist only received the information and said she would not discuss my situation with them. It's kind of nice to get a third party confirmation that my therapist is so strict about confidentiality, even with a release signed.
I do think it's important to ask for clarification about how the release will be used. I was in such bad shape at the time, I would have done/signed anything, probably. Not sure how to remedy that kind of situation. |
