Hi,
Thank you for your responses to my other topic thread! It really helped! Sorry will stop posting soon. My T as well as bringing up about hugs has made several references to me having to work through so much. She says I am far too controlled and contained and that I push my feelings down way too much. She has mentioned about longer sessions fleetingly and I don't know what to do? Is she testing the waters? Currently, I see her once a week for an hour. I never contact her outside of sessions either apart from if I need to reschedule. How long and how often are your sessions? Thanks! xx |

If I was curious, I would ask what she meant.
I see two different ones each week for 50 minutes each.

My sessions are 50 min, but there was one week I asked for a second appt and the only one available was right after my usual time, so I had a double appt that week. It was really interesting to see how the session deepened and shifted in that second hour. I was really glad I'd had a double session rather than two separate sessions in one week.
If you're having trouble getting to things, a longer session might be worth trying at least once. |

I think officially our sessions are 50 minutes (give or take). I met with my therapist as often or not as I felt was needed. Generally about once every week or so. I did not have a standing weekly appointment (and would not have wanted it that way -- my schedule is fluctuates too much and I don't schedule my life around my therapy; I schedule my therapy around my life -- and my kids' lives -- and work -- and this -- and that
![]() My sessions tended to be at the end of the day, so my sessions sometimes went over if we were in the middle of something. |

An hour or 50 min, don't really keep track. Once in two or three weeks or on occasion a month depends on my schedule. Working two jobs Make it difficult. I have no set schedule. I do not need weekly though even if I have time, and I don't contact t between sessions unless for scheduling

My sessions were 50 minutes once a week for most of the time (occasionally twice a week when we needed to "turn up the heat" as she'd say), near the end though we changed to 25-30 minute sessions due to my finances (I've been paying out of pocket since she moved, because my insurance won't help.) For me, I did really well with the shorter sessions, because I spent less time going "um.... um.... ah...." and finally just started saying things straight up without all the prelim, since I knew I had less time. (I guess I work better under pressure haha) Now that we're not doing regular sessions anymore, if I do call her and ask for one from time to time, they will be for 50 minutes again because there will be catching up to do.

My sessions have varied from 20 minutes to 5+ hours in one day. We did a number in the 90 minute range, and I found the long sessions more taxing but so worthwhile, much more helpful than one hour.

45 minutes, once a week. I can email my T between sessions, but I don't do that often.

My sessions are 90 minutes once a week with decent amount of emails in between sessions (not always therapy related), and occasional phone calls (usually check ins).

I see my T for 50 minute sessions, two times per week. Same days, same times, so it works out well for me as far as planning goes.

50 minutes with individual T once a week--she didn't used to ever let me go over, but it's been closer to an hour the past few weeks. The day/time varies, though not too much since she's only there M-W.
50 minutes with marriage counselor once a week--he often lets us go over (I think his lunch break is after our slot now), usually a little over an hour, and a couple times close to an hour and a half (but those were especially rough sessions). He does start late sometimes though, since he gives other patients more time too, but we always get at least 50 min. We have a regular slot now, which is nice, though we occasionally have to change it. P-doc about once a month for 25-min med check, though I've seen her more often or for longer when I've had a med issue/am switching meds |

50-60 minutes every 6-8 weeks. We're more in maintenance mode right now. She's a psychiatrist so she has a more full schedule than the average therapist so I've never done weekly, the most was every other week.

I see my T once a week for 50mins. If I'm in a crisis, she will allow me to see her twice a week.
I see my Pdoc every 4-6 weeks for 30mins.

Wanted to add that I can see my t more often if need/want. I once saw her twice a week because I was in distress and it was emergency. My insurance covers unlimited therapy

Now I'm wondering if my T would ever be willing to do a double session...it always seems like it's ending right as I'm getting to important stuff or having a realization. Then often something happens before the next appointment that we end up addressing instead of picking up where we left off. Or maybe we just need to stay on track more...

My sessions with T are almost aways 45 minutes, once a week. But last session was twice as long. She said I was her last client today, so we could spend all afternoon talking. Not serious all afternoon, but we didn't had to pay attention to the time. That was so nice. I mean, she won't had to do that. She could have just kept the normal time length. She gets paid anyway, she works at an agency.
Pdoc is not regular since I haven't found an antidepressant that works. The appointments are very short, I don't talk much to him. |
