I've had a very rough time since moving to Buffalo in January, and I kept it together really well for awhile, then I went to the bin (self admit)...and then things were okay, but then things got stressful and relationships got tested and I'm back in school and it's all so much that I don't think I can do it without seeing someone...but I tried once with someone, and she was horrible, and a pain in the but to get to and from because I don't drive...I mean, I'm sure I could request to see someone else there, but Idk. I asked my T for a referral when I first moved here and she couldn't find anyone who she thought would fit my needs...so now I'm lost and I don't know what to do. What do I do?

Hi!
Do you have a primary care doctor? Often they can connect you with someone. If you are in school can you use the counseling services there?

No PCP here. I just moved here in January, specifically for school -- actually, ONLY for school and no other reason, and I didn't even really want to come here, it was a very last minute type deal.

I am in school, but my school is so small that it doesn't even have a proper health office. In fact, it's labeled health records office, and it has a desk with a fax machine and a phone and a whole bunch of papers that in no way looks organized...then another little shelving unit that has candy and bandaids. It's worse than an elementary school nurses office...so no, no counseling services.

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. You mention that you're in school and I'm assuming this means a college or university. Do they have mental health services for students? Many schools do and they might be able to help you find someone.

ETA: Just saw your most recent reply. In that case the Psychology Today website might be the best place to start.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think tomorrow I'm gonna call and see if my T would be willing to do phone sessions with me. I know she doesn't usually, but I've been a client of hers for 7 years so she does a lot of things for me that she doesn't usually do. And I can just have her send the bills to my parents since they're the ones who pay for all my medical expenses anyway.
