I had to vote other because I'm much more likely to keep a promise to my therapist (almost to a compulsive level) but don't really care much about my current psychiatrist.

Answered other as it is a little complicated. I don't make promises I don't intend to keep. I don't really make promises to T though. She wouldn't want me ...only say that I will try and do my best.. She knows that I really try but occasionally fall flat. I would beat myself up if I made a promise that I couldn't keep with her as I respect her and know that the suggestions she makes are usually right but not always obtainable for me.

I try my best to keep promises that I make. I don't make too many though.

I do not make promises to my t or my doctors. I might say I will consider this or that but I don't promise things

I think it also depends on what you think of as being a promise like if you were to say it is only a promise if you say directly "I promise to....." Or if you count something that is an implied promise but those could also be called agreements. Like things like I promise not to trash a doctors office or respect other clients in the waiting room which could also be see and just general manners or in same ways could be viewed as a promise that is implied. Also sorry if that made no sense it does in my head but I don't know if I worded it well.
Thanks for this!

If I make a promise or agreement, I keep it. Accountability is incredibly important to me, both in myself and others. The kinds of "promises" I make to T are things like "I will bring in that book we talked about" or "I will e-mail you an update" or "I will let you know about that next week"-- and I always do. The bigger promises I make are usually made to my family, friends, or romantic partner, and I always keep those as well. I really strive to be reliable and trustworthy, because that is something I value and something I want in return. In fact, it bothers me quite a bit that my T is not as reliable as I am-- but it is something we are discussing and something I am trying to accept. My family has never been reliable, so I jo longer expect anything from them in that regard. My current girlfriend is extremely reliable-- at least so far-- and thst is definitely one of her selling points!!
Thanks for this!
