Hey guys, I have a therapy session tomorrow but on Friday I woke up with the flu. The worst day was Friday, and yesterday the symptoms seemed to get better but my glands started to hurt. Today I woke up coughing and a runny nose, plus my glands are still hurting when I touch them. Compared to Friday though I'm feeling a bit better. So as the question says, I have a therapy session tomorrow ( I sort of want to go because theres a lot we have to cover ) but at the same time I dont know if I should. I would have to let her know today because she has a 24 hour cancellation policy. Should I email her and tell her I won't be coming in? I have the energy to go and talk to her it's just that I dont want to go get her sick. Should I say that in the email? Sadly I can't wait until tomorrow morning to let her know because that would be too late.

Any ideas?

I would cancel. Maybe see about a phone session or if she has time later in the week?

If you have a fever, sneezing or coughing it's much more responsible to stay home and not spread germs. Your therapist and her other patients will be thankful.

I would go. My T and I have this agreement, that unless I can't walk at all I can't miss an appointment. And even then I should just crawl to get to her office
But that's just me. You can wear a face mask, if you're worried about germs.

If it were me I would contact her and give her a heads up that I was feeling sick and might need to cancel tomorrow, and either try to reschedule for later in the week or agree to contact her in the morning and let her know if I was well enough to come in.

But my therapist wouldn't charge me for being sick - I would think the therapist would have to take responsibility themselves for getting sick from clients if the policy is to charge them for canceling while sick, but maybe I'm just not understanding the logic of the policy!

My therapist doesnt charge for missed appointments if I let her know. She just prefers to know a day before just to see if another client can take my place. I emailed her and told her I won't be going ( I feel worse now ). At least I won't have to deal with the anxiety that comes along with the session now ! Now I have a week until the next one. Hopefully it goes by slower.

anxiousgirl,
I would call your therapist and ask her to reschedule your session when you're feeling better. if you feel like emailing her that is okay she might not have the time to look at her emails and won't get your message that you're sick and can't make it in for your appointment with her.

I would cancel. It wouldn't be fair to expose her.
