Hey guys. Many of you probably know (I'm sorry for always asking these things on the thread) but I see a therapist for GAD. For the past 2 weeks we've started doing some exposure therapy. It sucks. I only got past like 1 part of an entire list of things I have to face. So now I'm on the 2nd part of the exposure and it's actually really tough. I've been trying to face it for 3 weeks now and still couldn't. I saw my therapist yesterday and we talked about some pretty hard stuff and I barely even made any eye contact. At the end my T said that it is hard and that's the reason my T is pushing my to continue. I honestly almost felt like crying yesterday. So now I'm trying to collect the nerve to do the exposure but again, can't. I want to email my T and ask how I can just get this over with already because I keep backing out. At the end of the session my T walked me out and asked if I was okay and I said yeah, then told me to email if anything came up (my T always lets me use email because I can't talk about certain things).
Any ideas? Thanks! |

I think you should email your therapist if for reassurance if you think that will help comfort you

Agreed, I think you should e-mail her and let her know what you're feeling.

If you think you need to contact your T then chances are you do. I learned this the hard way.

I don't think there's much doubt your therapist is fine with emails from you, but it seems like the need to push yourself is adding more stress, causing you to need to email her (again, it's fine if you do--she's already said that). Is there another way to go at this without railroading yourself?
Instead of pushing through the exercise, could you just email that you're going to try something different, which is to go easy on yourself and take a break until your next appointment? I've found that not trying so hard to excel actually gets better results. |

Perhaps you are worried she might express disappointment or impatience. I very much doubt she would and if she did the world would not end. Anxiety can be a terrible thing and I expect you feel dreadful inside. Email and perhaps you can feel a little better.

I'm alright. Thanks for all the answers. I still wasn't able to do the exposure therapy but I have a few more days until my next appointment so hopefully I get to do it today. I decided not to email my T either.
