I have gotten a part-time insurance packet from a co-worker because mine has not arrived yet. The part-time insurance does not cover any mental health stuff. "Medical Exclusions: ....Inpatient or outpatient treatment of alcoholism, drug abuse and mental disorders" I am not sure if I want to continue the old insurance through COBRA or do PT insurance. The part-time insurance also has a crappy prescription discount plan.
As for T, I will talk to her next week (paying $110/hr). Then she will be having some work done on her shoulder. This morning, I started fantasizing about her dieing on the operating table. (Fortune telling, worse case scenario if you ask me) I will ask her how long she will be off of work for the shoulder surgery. I hope that it won't be too long. I miss her when I don't get to see her once or twice a month. Besides, this health insurance/job search issue is really bothering me.

Please verify your benefits by calling the insurance company. What you quoted here may pertain only to hospital/facility expenses.

I'm sorry you have the insurance issue to deal with also. COBRA is very expensive but may be worth it and a good thing is that you can go month to month.

A nice thing about not having insurance involved in your therapy is that there is no one to answer to. I pay for my therapy myself and it's very nice knowing this is just between my therapist and me. I think it even helps me with the therapeutic relationship/intimacy aspect of it.

Fantasizing about your therapist dying sounds like it is about your insurance worries (will you still be able to see her now that your insurance has changed), how her surgery will affect her availabiity (how long will she be unable to be there for me? I'm really going to miss her!) and your caring concern for her as a person.

I hope she won't be out too long too. It sounds like you need her very much right now.

Hopeful,

I'm sorry about your insurance problems. I know how you feel because, although my therapy is partially reimbursed, my son's is not and we pay for him out of pocket. Maybe you can get a part time job that is just enough to pay for therapy? I know how difficult this time is, particularly since it is occurring at the same time your T is having surgery.

Can you ask her to have someone call you after the surgery so that you know she is all right? I don't think that's an extraordinary request.

Good luck and wishing she recovers quickly for her sake and yours!

Hi Hopefull,

I'm sure sorry to hear about your concerns, both about insurance, and also with your T needing to take some time off for surgery. It sounds like there are a lot of difficult things right now!

In the past, I was on COBRA for awhile when I had difficulties with insurance transitions, moving from one job to another and such. I know every situation is different, but at least in my case, I was glad to be able to stay on COBRA. It was helpful. But I know that isn't an easy decision either. I wish insurance policies had better coverage all around, for everyone, these days.

I'll be hoping your T will be gone for as short a time as possible! Thinking of you, Hopefull, and wishing you all the best at this difficult time....

Take care,
ErinBear
