My t has helped me a lot, and there are still things that I haven't talked about that his style of therapy is good for me, but then there's the other aspect where I have ruminating thoughts, low self esteem and those things I don't know how he can help me without changing his style of therapy. I don't know what to do because I have severe trust issues and I don't want to start over. I think I would benefit from a cbt t. He is a psycho dynamic therapist. And I've gone to cbt therapists, I just never liked them. They weren't as caring. What do I do? I'm feeling like therapy is not helping anymore lik it used to.

T's are trained in a range of modalities, and almost all of them use an eclectic approach that tailors the treatment to the client. My T changed his style of therapy as my issues changed.
You could print your post out and hand it to your T. That would be a pretty good place to start. Good luck! |

I think most experienced Ts can change their style of therapy according the client's needs. I know it's tough, but be as honest as you can be with him. If he feels like he can't help you, he will let you know.

I agree most Ts can adapt, however a psychodynamic T is unlikely to have trained in CBT, though he may have some of the skills if he's topped up his training.
Maybe two Ts for a while? That way you could benefit from the solution focused CBT work but your usual T could support you the out the process. |

The best way to figure out how to get what you need out of therapy is to discuss this with your T. See what your T can offer you first. He may have some tricks up his sleeve you aren't aware of. If he doesn't, he should be able to offer up advice for you on how to best get what you need.
