lol i got two T's to interview this week.

one cost 100 per session, the other cost $150 first session, $125 every session after that.

But I could buy an ipad mini and stay crazy.

Or I could go interview two women and not end up liking either one of them and have no ipad mini.

Ipad or therapist gamble, that is the question. :-X

There are a lot of therapy apps for the iPad. I like this EMDR-based one, very calming (I had it before I even got anywhere near therapy - I love the elephant one).

I vote for the Ipad & staying crazy. Many T's are crazier than you!

I would get an ipad. I agree that most of them are worse off than we are. Not worth the money.

Get the iPad mini. See the therapists later, if you want.

I would pay for the therapist. I'd choose my T over an ipad any day.

but which one? the older one with 20 years experience (but not specialist in eating disorders or bpd)

or the younger one with ten years specialized experience in eating disorders? but she looks like a damn fashion model. which is not a bonus point. i feel intimidated already.

I was in the Tampa Bay Area in Florida for 25 yrs and only found one outstanding T and one adequate T in the whole time. If your experience is anything like mine, definitely get the iPad mini. There's so much help online ... I especially like "Calm", but Google "iPad apps for __________" (fill in what you want help with).

Please let us know what you decide!

Will therapists where you live not give you a free 15 minute phone conversation to get an idea if you want to see them?

Unless you're in crisis, I'd go with the iPad mini.

Do you mean that she's very pretty or that she also wears expensive, fashionable clothes and lots of makeup?

I can't help but wonder about therapists who overdo the personal appearance aspect. Well-groomed but low-key is a much better look for their type of job in my opinion.

Having said that, between the two you mentioned, I'd still choose the one with the specialized experience. Or get the iPad.

i guess she just looks high maintenance and shes very pretty too. but maybe she just did that for her pic and in person shes more down to earth.

what do you think?

Bleh! What is a therapist thinking when she uses a pic like that for her professional head shot? You'd think she'd be wanting to project a look that would appeal to clients.

So, either she thinks that's a look that appeals to clients or she's just focused on looking as pretty as possible without thinking about how clients might respond.
Thanks for this!

i only need it if i plan on finishing graduate school and having a career as a therapist.

if i give up that goal and content myself with a lifetime of SSI, low income housing and being an underpaid babysitter, then no, I do not NEED therapy.

but that is not the life i want to live. I want to resolve the things that are holding me back from (take your pick) self actualization/higher differentiation and building and maintaining satisfying relationships. I cant do any of that without therapy.
Thanks for this!

lol i know, right? but some of them do use these kinds of pics. are they preferential to the pix that make them look like drug addicts? i dunno.

i decided to go meet her just in case. to see if shes really as frufru as she looks.

and some of them will talk to you, this one works at an agency with receptionists- you dont get to talk to the clinicians unless youre already a client. i e-mailed her tho, since its on her website. no reply yet.

I agree it would be good to know if she always looks like that. I question the eyeliner, though. (Although I'm not sure how valid it is to judge someone by their eyeliner.)

If she offered a free 15 minute phone consultation, I'd talk to her.
Thanks for this!

Uhm is this thread a joke?

I understand that MANY therapists are therapists because they are dysfunctional themselves, but given your diagnosis' I'd say that you do indeed need therapy. I don't think its professionally responsible to have your diagnosis' and be untreated....and be "treating" others. I've said this to others as well so please don't think I'm picking on you specifically.

I'm not treating anyone at the moment- I'm just a student.

Mine is super pretty and i would have instantly hated her from a picture, but she's actually really kind and empathetic. Actually the most understanding one I ever had.
