Thanks everyone. It's really interesting reading all the replies.
Realising I should have put 'have a sleep' as an option...actually I do that too!

Sometimes I eat, sometimes I walk, and sometimes I just detach from myself if it was particularly rough.

I have to sit in my car to calm myself and listen to music, then I drive home with it really loud so I can't think about anything other than driving.

I get home and then my little one is home from school and it is full on dealing with an autistic ADHD kiddo whose meds have worn off.

By the time she goes to bed- I'm exhausted

Sleep. Sometimes for two or three days.

I had a fellow sufferer ("therapy sibling"?) who used to sit in her car and cry.

I wonder, though, if therapy is really supposed to be that hard. If T keeps an eye in the time, winds up gently and ends on a positive note, it will be easier on the patient and might be quicker, too.

On easy days I do that. Just so much lately and especially right now. She always ends on a positive note and pays attention to time. I just have a lot to process and decompress from it seems.

I used to ask my T to notify me 5 minutes before we end so I could just sit in silence.
Today I just get myself together in the car. Sometimes its fine sometimes it's super challenging

Usually I go home and sleep for an hour. If I don't feel too bad, I'll go to Second Cup for a London Fog drink.

Most of the alternatives are either not possible for me (can't start drinking alcohol at 10:30am on a weekday, and there is nobody I could phone) or would make me feel more stressed and unhappy (exercise, meditation) - I sometimes go to a café but since I usually buy a coffee immediately before therapy, it feels a bit extravagant to do that. It does help me decompress though. I used to spend some time writing down some things about the session but it's been a long time since I did that.

Depending on how I feel I'll either go to work which is very close to T's office, or take a bus back home, provided I can work from home that day. It is fortunate that I don't cry under any circumstances, since there is no way I can have privacy immediately after my session. Sometimes - frequently, of late - I feel truly awful when I leave. (But I would not want to use session time for winding down. I'm glad my T does not do that.)

I walk my dog but not because of therapy but because she needs to get out in the mornings and that's just how I do it, walk the dog before I do chores.
Thanks for this!
