So I had a job interview on Thursday and I got a call yesterday saying that they want me to come in for a trial day on Monday. I'm worried about what I should do about my T appointment if I end up getting this job. My hours would be 9am-5:30pm and I believe my T works 9am-6pm. I can't ask to leave early during my first week at a new job and I don't know if my T does after hours appointments. I hope she does, I mean a lot of people work full time so it would make sense. The other thing is I need to get a new referral from my GP so that my T sessions will be covered by public health insurance. I need to get that before I see T on Thursday but if I'm working then I won't be able to.
I'm kind of freaking out because I really need to see my T every week - I've begun to depend on our sessions and with this new job being a possibility I'm feeling quite anxious and I want her support. I kind of want to email her and explain all this to her but I'm not quite sure what her email policy is and I don't want to annoy her. What should I do? ![]() |

Congrats on the job interview!
I'd e-mail her. If you're not sure what her e-mail policy is, then you can hardly be blamed for violating it, now can you ![]() You might need to miss the week with T. See if she can talk to you on the phone instead. Alternatively, if you get the job, remember that you're there because they WANT you to be. And so you just say, "I've got an appointment at X time on X day." It is amazing how, when you say a thing with warmth and confidence, people just say, "oh, okay," right back at you. No problems. If they have a problem, hey, you'll cross that bridge when you come to it. Wishing you the absolute best!

I just sent the email to T and I mentioned how I feel quite attached to her and I'm nervous about how she will respond. I know I shouldn't worry and that feeling attached to your therapist is pretty normal and often times encouraged but yeah... showing any kind of vulnerability makes me anxious

Good for you! Attachment is very common, and I wouldn't think it at all odd to feel it more keenly when there's a stressor in your life, like getting a new job. I'm sure your T will handle it with grace. Good luck with everything!
