I did not find therapy addictive until I founded my current therapist she is totally not the same as the others I had. She evens phone from time to time to make shore that everything is in order. She started giving me work books to go through and this makes out about 40% of the sessions. It is like my bipolar gets out of hand when I have been out of a session for a while. addiction is a harsh word maybe to use but it really feels that way.

I'm curious as to the nature of the addiction. (Addiction is not being used in a negative sense here.)

Is it the therapist? (attachment, transference, etc.)
Is it the therapeutic process? (being heard, accepted, etc.)
Is it something else?

I don't find therapy addictive; it just seems helpful at times. The only thing I really find addictive is exercise, and that's because it makes me feel so whole and vital physically and emotionally. Therapy doesn't make me feel that way.
As a recovering addict. No. Believe me, lying in a room with all the curtains shut, afraid to answer a phone, answer a door, sweating from withdrawer, trying to work out where to get the next fix, thinking threapy is addictive, is just playing with addiction.
