What would make ones PTT be elevated? Hmm.
If it's bleeding time, then they must be worried about blood clotting - it's either too slow or too fast. Thus the concern about surgery?

Middle of the day flashbacks suck. Now my body feels weird and I can't concentrate or function and I have things that need to get done but I want to run away or drive away or go away or be away and my mind won't slow down and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Nice new couch! Had a short, but good t appointment today. He fit me in because he won't be here Friday. I think I will come back and talk about later tonight.

Yes. The nurse just called me again. She says High normal for PTT is 35. The result of my first PTT was 48. The result of today's PTT is 46.
I don't know if that means my blood is taking too long to clot...or it is clotting too fast. (Sorry if tmi)

I was hoping it was a lab error. Guess not.

The nurse emailed the new results to the surgeon. The nurse said the doctor will -likely- want me to see a hematologist and get this figured out before she will do surgery. : (

At this point, surgery is still up in the air.

The nurse says if the doc answers her today, she will call me. Otherwise someone will call me tomorrow.

A question from the last couch. Is sleep paralysis where you wake up or think you wake up and you feel as if you are restrained and there are shadowy figures around the bed and a general sense of terror? I get that too.

There is a range of reason your blood might not be clotting properly one is medications, another is foods Kale can slow your clotting time if you eat enough of regularly and genetic causes. Its been a long time since i have been in a lab and my memory may not be right.

Yeah, I think so - the bit about not being able to move, never noticed shadowy figures. I've only experienced it a few times after especially bad nightmares, but it is scary.

Pre--
Just happened to see your post. The number equals the number of seconds it takes for your blood to start clotting. So a high # means a higher risk for bleeding during a surgery. Lots of things can effect it: blood thinning Rx, Vit E, daily aspirin, eating a lot of kale as mentioned, ginko biloba, fish oil supplements, garlic supplements, and I'm sure other stuff I don't remember. I'm sure the hematologist will ask you about any supplements/medications/foods you ingest. So don't worry yet that you have some disorder.

Back to other couch programming...

Hi couch! I'll take a glass of Artie's wine and snuggle in for a few minutes. Have to help the little with homework and my stupid microwave broke again, right after I bought 2 tons of food yesterday. Yay.

It won't stop raining. I have sheets to wash. Why does my depression semi-lift on rainy days but takes a plunge on hot days? It should be the other way round, right. Or is that seasonal affective disorder?

I wish my microwave would break then I wouldn't have to clean it. No-one in my house (including me) has heard of covering food to micromave.

And of course not. But a very firm tone indeed.

Exactly it. Shadowy figures, can't breathe, can't move.

Apparently there is a new documentary out about sleep paralysis. Doesn't sound like an enjoyable watch.

I think that there is not much looking into it because it doesn't actually harm - it is just unpleasant.

BunYip you're right, if the fridge broke I'd really be up the creek! We don't ever have snow (even when it does get that cold) so no ice-bath outside to tide me over. And rotten food trumps "why does it take so long???!!!"
