ok so i often have thoughts about harming other people or impulsive thoughts where i get the strong and very difficult to control urge to stab or seriously harm other people mostly i can try and distract myself and remind myself that doing that would involve me touching someone something my OCD is NOT ok with. when i am seeing my psychologist and psychiatrist though i often get these thoughts and the others in my head seem to enjoy them i dont know maybe they are even putting them there but they encourage it like "yes do kill him" when i get the thoughts and then i just cant get it out of my head and it becomes very hard to listen to anything my psychologist or psychiatrist says. i have told them i have thoughts about harming other people but not about them and i dont know if i should or not i am scared what there reaction would be if i did. does anyone else ever get these thoughts?

Hi eden,
I don't really have a piece of advice. I just want to let you know that I've experienced this overwhelming urge to harm others (or myself). It's scary, exhausting. What works for me is putting headphones on and listening music, as loud as possible. I think you should tell your T/pdoc. They're trained. They should know how to handle this thoughts. Stay safe |

So you now have voices telling you to kill others? Do you still think you don't need medical help or you started leaning towards realization that you need help ASAP? You are now endangering more than yourself. People around you are in danger too. So what do you think you should do?

I have had these thoughts as long as anything else I have had even longer than some things. I just don't talk about them much and for the last time THEY ARE NOT VOICES!!!!!!!

I used to have these thoughts quite a bit also. They are called intrusive thoughts. They are a form of ocd. I used to have thoughts of harming my animal or other people besides other thoughts I would rather not mention. I told my psychiatrist and she gave me a medication for them. It also helped to verbalize them aloud with my therapist. They are scary when you have them. For me they would be worse when I was feeling anxious. I still have them but not as often. I hope this helps. I think I understand what you are going through.

My bad. I perhaps misread. You said they ( "others") encourage it by saying " yes go kill him", and I thought you meant that you hear it which would be kind of like a voice. I didn't know you had thoughts of killing other people for that long. I thought it was new development. But does it become a concern recently? There must be a reason you feel you need to do somethings about it now? |

Doesn't matter if they're thoughts or voices, what matters is that they are telling you to kill/harm people. This is something that can't be ignored and you need to tell someone right away so they can help you.

The only way to get the help you need is to talk to the professionals in your life or find new ones. Venting may release the stress temporarily but true relief will come from letting some professionals truly help you.

I've had some pretty not-chill thoughts. Talking with my therapist helped. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

I see. Well you got the answer, everyone says the same thing. Immediately see a professional and tell him/her. What are your plans? |

Eden, you always stop at "it is complicated" in these threads, but if we are to understand your situation as best as we can, maybe you can try to un-complicate it for us.

We can deal with complicated. So what plans do you have on how to handle all this, regardless how complicated?

I know you said that others told you to do things and when you do them then you'd feel better. But then you said some of the things involve causing harm to yourself and others. It doesn't sound like you want to do that so what do you think you might do instead?
