My T doesn't share too much about herself, but has given me a bit of insight from time to time. Like she mentioned she puts so much pressure on herself to make Christmas perfect, even though her kids are grown (though maybe it's for the grandkids). I'd want to find out more about that. Is she a perfectionist in other areas, like me? What were her relationships like before she met her husband? What's her husband like? He used to own the therapy practice with her, so I'm rather curious about him. Especially because she seems so independent! What are her kids like? What regrets does she have? And probably the biggest question--has she ever personally suffered from any sort of mental illness? Because she seems like someone who's very pulled together, yet I've learned she can be quite empathic and has been told she cares too much. Is that because of something she's personally experienced? Someone she is/was close to? Or is it just how she is?
For marriage counselor, he's shared a lot about his life, from childhood onward. He's talked a bit about his father and negative effects he had on him, but never about his mother. So I'd want to know more about her. He's talked about having anxiety issues, but I suspect he's had depression in the past, too. So I'd want to ask about that. And he talks about his daughter a lot, and some of her past issues with anxiety and other stuff, but not so much about his son, except for a few anecdotes. So I'm curious about him. And also about his wife. Including what actual illness/condition she has and how he/they cope with it. And, in light of a conversation I had with H tonight, whether her illness frustrates him--and whether he'd ever let her know that. Really, with him, I think there would be a lot of "yeah, me too" in the therapy. Since there's already a bit of that. And we'd be sort of trying to heal each other. |

I'd want to understand what she needed and try to a) provide that and/or b) help her get that need met in a healthy way.

T told me that when he was in college he experienced a mild delusion. I would want to know more about that. He said some things about it so I know a little. I know he has bipolar. He told me his mom and sister died... his mom died when he was in his early 20s. I would wanna know how she died. Also I suspect there's a weird thing about alcohol in his family. And... I would like to ask him if he's experienced trauma bc that's his main focus in his practice
