I saw my therapist today. I heard her say three words and then nothing else for the remainder of our session. I had absolutely no idea the power of those words because no one had ever said them to me before. That is as much my fault as anyone's. I haven't talked about it much. I had been sharing some early childhood trauma with her, the severity of which staggers the imagination. Her three words were, "I believe you."
I never before realized how much I needed to hear that. Learn something every day. |

I agree. When my T first said, "I Believe You" I was stunned and comforted and relieved and felt I really could grow, someone really did hear me. It was in the way she said it too, like she really did believe me. Sometimes I still ask her if she still believes me because I need to know that what I'm saying is being held in truth and that she gets it, me, the situations, the understandings. Out of all the 3 word phrases my T has said to me, that is the most important and connecting one of them all.

Hearing those words here give me hope that I can believe myself. The things that are coming back to me that I'm trying to sort out and make peace with. Think I'll have some time today to tell myself "I believe you."

Trying to sort through some things today. I remembered this from last week.
There is a part of me that keeps asking if I believe "me." It's easy to say, "Yes, I believe you!" It's easy to say the words, but there is an undercurrent that doesn't agree. This feels very important that I understand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
