What do you think of a client getting up the courage to seek help from a T only to have their life destroyed by them?

This T has severe psychological problems and USES his clients to satisfy his own need to feel superior. He tried to manipulate me in so many ways it's disgraceful to the field of psychology. How do people live with themselves knowing full well they are destroying a decent person?

Torntwopcs, sorry you feel your T made things worse for you; I hope you have quit him and found someone more competent to help you.

Aren't you still seeing this therapist? Or do I have you confused with another poster? I apologize if you do, but you sound like another poster who has a very similar posting style. I hope you have found the ability to leave that situation and can find some healing.

Not sure anyone woild disagree with you. That's unfortunate. Narcissism is soul destroying. Especially in the caring professions.
Are you going to look for help in recovering from this or what?

That's terrible! I think it's time for a new therapist, without a doubt. That therapist should be in therapy, not be a therapist.

It's a shame that some people don't seem to have a conscience and don't care about hurting others. That is not the definition of a therapist.

I hope you have taken measures not only to leave such a toxic man but to consider legal avenues if he destroyed your life.

Wow. Sorry that your therapist is a horrible person!

My old therapist never tried to manipulate me, but she acted as though she was a doctor and she did lie to me. For example, my pdoc diagnosed me with Bipolar 1 Disorder. Then when I asked my therapist about the disorder diagnosis, she said, "No, you were not diagnosed as bipolar. You are not bipolar. I know you're not bipolar because you've never experienced depression." (??? I had severe depression when I sought help from a psychiatrist.)

So, I kind of know what it's like to have an evil therapist, and I wish I reported her.

If your therapist is truly an awful human being, then I would report him before he can harm other patients! And obviously you need to leave him ASAP. He's a scumbag.

I think it happens a lot more than people want to admit.

The best you can do is stop seeing him if you haven't already. I'd suggest reporting him too although it is a long, lengthy and painful process usually.
Thanks for this!

It always amazes me how people get by and qualified into this profession with high level mental illnesses such as you describe. Its such a huge responsibility too look after the clients wellbeing. To take on someone elses problems and issues. How is it not addressed and highlighted more I wonder?
Thanks for this!

Is this your own analysis or have you heard other feedback too? Sounds terrible. Are you still seeing him? I can only guess, but I imagine being in the position of therapist might be incredibly intoxicating for some.

"Or what". How could I possibly recover? I haven't told you the half of what he did to me.
