Hi,

I've been having suicidal thoughts and they have been getting pretty strong for me. I see a T in private practice i dont know whether to tell him. I dont have to worry about being 'stopped' as my T has no emergency contact information.

I've spoken about suicidal thoughts with my T and it's been a relief to talk them through and get some perspective. My understanding is that unless you tell them you have a plan or are going to kill yourself they will just talk through the types of thoughts your having.

My T talks through them with me and I was terrified the first time I brought it up but now it's relieving and helpful to get it out in the open and discuss it with her. I hope you can discuss it with your T. It does help.

I'd highly suggest talking to your t about these thoughts. When I was caught in the grips of wanting to commit suicide a while back, talking about it to my t lessened its power over me. It gave me relief just to talk about it.

Suicide is the worst kind of liar. Talk to your t -- or someone safe -- before it gets worse.

I think its really important to talk about suicidal thoughts with your T. I have talked about them with my T and it has helped to have her there and to get them out. Its important to have a safe place to talk about them and figure out why you have them and to try and lessen the power they have over you. I hope you get relief from these thoughts.

I think that therapy should be a place where you can feel safe to bring up these kinds of thoughts. I understand that it can be scary, because you don't know how they are going to react, but a decent therapist will know how to handle it and will hopefully be able to help you through it.

In the meantime, please stay safe.
