It's been awhile and I'm curious again of the type of therapy your therapists uses as their 'basis'. I know a lot of therapists mix modalities but what is their main one?

Psychodynamic. (which comes under "Other".) It is one of the two main modalities they have in my country - the other one is CBT.
Thanks for this!

My T does person centered therapy (based on Carl Rogers).

My T is does counseling based on adlerian principles. I would say he is very person-centered as well, though I think the two go hand in hand.

CBT, but not what I'd call 'hardcore CBT'.

He is psychodynamic- specializes in object-relations. He does throw in dbt/cbt in as well.

Mine is integrative, with a strong leaning towards client centred.

I have no idea what the difference is between those types of therapies. Could someone explain them to me?

I did psychoanalysis before. I am just looking for a new therapist and am more interested in ones that use an eclectic, individualized (tailored to specific client) treatment approach, but primarily psychodynamic. Just saw one of the candidates yesterday who is quite eclectic and I have the feeling that would be a much better fit for me than a more purist approach.

I find it really interesting that psychodynamic therapy seems to be the most common in the US, yet here in the UK humanistic and integrative therapists are by far the most common, even though the client centred approach began in the US.
Thanks for this!

Mine is very eclectic in using all sorts of techniques but she bases it all around being client central unless that type of therapy wouldn't be good for the client.

Mine solely uses Gestalt and I should mention I didn't know this when I rang to make an appointment. New t is also gestalt.
I sometimes wish I could try a person centred t but I really need the gestalt approach, it os the only one that has worked so far. God knows, I have tried them all!

I guess No. 3 does EFT...but not with me.

Maybe I should have checked other, it seems that for mine all their modalities are ATSOOTC - Annoy the **** out of the client.

Mine definitely is eclectic but I would say she used Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) most with me.

She is mainly Jungian but mixes in other modalities as she sees fit.

ETA: I had no clue about what Jungian therapy was all about when I started. Her profile online said Jungian but I sorta glossed over that because I didn't know what it meant really and decided to keep seeing her because I felt like we just clicked right from the initial phone consult. I quickly became fascinated with all things Jungian.

I voted Other.

I'm not sure what the difference is between eclectic vs integrative?

Mine blends "Acceptance and Commitment therapy"(ACT), "Dialectical Behavioural therapy" (DBT) and Schema Therapy (which is cognitive with elements of psychodynamic and gestalt apparently).

Psychodynamic primarily. I never asked him his primary modality, but that certainly fits. We use some Internal Family Systems methods as well, which we have discussed.
