Hmmm. . .my computer ate the other post. Let's try this again.

Does anybody else here use comic relief in therapy, and if so, in what form? Pink's thread got me thinking on this. My T would fall over laughing if I walked in with a Siggy finger puppet.

I have these t shirt that I get from Hot Topic, and that are fabulous! My favorite one says, " I used to have Superhuman powers, but my therapist took them all away."

Some others are:
"One by one the penguins steal my sanity."
"Can't sleep the clowns will eat me!"
"Sarcasm: it's better than killing people."
"I've crossed over to the dark side. . .but don't worry, I brought a flashlight."

I love those shirts. Comic Relief in Therapy I saw one that had a picture of a cow on it. Then there's a little balloon coming from the cow's mouth that says "Woof." That one would be fun to wear to therapy.... Comic Relief in Therapy

In response to the original question, there is occasional comic relief in my therapy sessions, just in the form of jokes that T and I will make (mostly T). My favorite was when he made an analogy about walking through a pasture avoiding cow-pies. I told him his analogy was "very deep." Comic Relief in Therapy

Hahahaaa. . .sometimes you just wanna say, "Dude. Lighten up. It isn't ALWAYS about something, you know?"

I have this brilliant, bright orange (like prisoner orange) sweatshirt with bright blue embroidery on it that says, "Pysch Ward"

And yes. . .to those dying to ask the question, I WORE IT TO T!!!

He rolled.

My T tells jokes sometimes and we laugh together (they are usually pretty funny--good thing we have a similar sense of humor). He told two jokes last time. One of them he had told me already, but I didn't tell him that, I just let him say it again since he tells it so well. Sometimes one of us says something and we have a little interchange that strikes us both as funny and we will burst out laughing. One time he showed me humorous photos on his computer (visual puns) that someone had e-mailed him.

Hahahahahaha, amazing.

There is a lot of humor in my therapy. He has a similar sense of humor to me... quite dry and sarcastic. Sometimes we joke about the patterns that emerge in session. For example, my anger. Yes it's a serious thing, but c'mon.... it's hysterical at times as well. I am a huge proponent of the use of humor, not only in therapy, but in tough situations in general. Anyway, here is an example of what I was talking about. This occurred a couple of weeks ago:

We had a Saturday session, and I was telling him how I was really excited to make a pie later in the day. I told him how I didn't want to get all upset during the session because it might ruin my whole day, and therefore, I wouldn't get to make my pie. During the course of the session, I ended up expressing some anger at him, and then it let up a bit at the end.

Him: Good luck with the pie.
Me: Thanks. I hope it comes out really well.
Him: Well, you'll know who to blame if it doesn't.
Me: Exactly!
