So I have mentioned in some of my previous threads that I'm going from weekly to fortnightly sessions due to financial reasons. I just saw T after my first two week gap and the session went well but I just had so many things that I wanted to talk about and there was not enough time. I think if I continued with fortnightly sessions there would just be an ever-growing backlog of things that I would never have the time to discuss with T. I don't know, it just really stresses me out for some reason. I'm proud of myself for actually making a decision on my own for once instead of talking to my parents first (that has been an ongoing issue for me).

On another topic, I am constantly surprised at how smart and insightful my T is. She is able to make connections between stuff I'm saying and comes up with these things I've never thought about before but are completely true, it's awesome!

Thanks for this!

On another unrelated topic, do many of you read psychology/therapy related articles and books? If so, do you talk your T about what you've read? Awhile ago I read this book which had a lot of references to Donald Winnicott. I started to read up on him and Object Relations in general and I find it very interesting and relevant to the things I often discuss with T. For some reason I'm hesitant to tell T that I read these things incase she thinks I'm some sort of weirdo. Also, my T has links to a few articles on her website about psychodynamic therapy vs CBT and I read this funny article which I think my T would enjoy (if she hasn't read it already) and I want to tell her about it but again, I'm worried she will think I'm weird or something...

I would think if you told the therapist what you were reading she would think you were enthusiastic, not weird.
Thanks for this!

I think it is great you have decided for yourself what is right for you and are doing it. If two weekly is not enough, go weekly, good for you, and I really do hope it helps.

I do read a little, though not as much as in the beginning, and no, I don't tell my T, for.similar reasons. I think I feel like I am cheating in some way, it is odd.

do many of you read psychology/therapy related articles and books? Yes of course, it is what adults do - they find stuff out and act on it. Reading around your problems is the first stage of recovery. Good luck.

My T sometimes recommends books for me to read, so I'm sure she'd think it was a good thing if I said I read articles/books about therapy/psychology. She's said before that T's like clients are are interested in and involved in the process, which I am. So I think your T would think it's a positive thing that you're reading about it.

Also, my marriage counselor is into the whole object relations theory. I think that's part of why he's been comfortable dealing with my transference for him and has generally done a good job of helping me through it and understanding what it represents.

Thanks everyone . I will try to bring up the things I've read soon. I still have some topics left over from last session that I didn't get time to discuss so I want to address those first.

My T is into Self Psychology which is a different school is of thought to Object Relations (obviously) but from my limited understanding there is some overlap. I find Winnicott's theories to be more straightforward than most other things I've read and his thoughts on parenting are particularly interesting to me as my Mother is a regular topic in my sessions.
