T said When taking about having gotten a cleaner recently (a topic I posted about a while ago) that she just doesn't like housework. I know, I know, not many do. But it's the way she said it. Light heartedly.

Today she was telling me about the apartment she had recently rented on her trip to Berlin. She told me it was on the 6th floor and had no lift. I looked at her laughing. Then she said, to be honest. Whrn I booked it a while back I did know that. But I told myself I'd get fit before I went.....then she kinda waived her hand over her self and said......but I forgot to, then she laughed.

She had a way of saying "I forgot about this or that, or, I don't like don't this or that, that has an appeal about it. She's not beating herself up about what she doesn't like or doesn't do. She takes the 'SHOULDS & MUSTS' out of life. I like that. Especially the forgetting to get fit lol.

So many People held hostage by their fitbits etc. It's refreshing to simply raise the white flag and just own it. I FORGOT lol.

I think that's my new mantra.

There was a feminist meme before they started calling them memes that I related to:

"I forgot to have children!"

Thanks for this! Cute story. I think it sounds like a great attitude. It's good to hone in on people who display a more positive way about things.

My therapist once said something when I started a "I should have..." sentence. She interrupted me with a smile and said, "Don't 'should' yourself." It rang a bell with me so now I catch myself when I do it. So yeah, she has a good point. 99.9% of our "shouldas" and "wouldas" are just self-loathing judgements. They're unneccesary and distract us from real every day moments of joy. Why beat yourself up?

I think we can get to this attitude with some practice. Seeing a role model for it and then recognizing the desire to change towards that goal is a huge step.
