I read all kinds of posts about this very question, but I don't want to hijack a thread, so here goes.

Monday I am taking a horse to it's new home, about a 7 hour drive from here. The horse's owner is riding along with me and he is a college student. Given that my youngest just graduated from college I do not think I want to stop and sleep somewhere along the route. He has never driven a truck and trailer. He will be learning Monday although he doesn't know that yet. But I probably won't sleep while he is driving due to his inexperience.

So my dilemma is whether we leave early Monday morning or wait until after my 8am t appointment. T said he would keep the hour open and I should just text him this weekend with what I decide. Which is quite accommodating of him.

I've been doing soooo much better lately. I actually think that I will recover. I have been in therapy for 9 years without that hope. So I think I could stand to miss the appointment and I would like to get home before early Tuesday am. Ugh. Just not sure what I want to do.

If you are feeling better, then miss the appointment and take the horse. Then when you have done all the travelling, you can book another one. A 7 hour drive with someone with little driving experience and a horse is a big deal. If it was me, I would sort that out first and go to T at another time. Good luck, whatever you decide.
Thanks for this!

If it was me, I would cancel for that week.

I also would skip the T session on the day of the long drive.

I am not doing better so I am keeping my Weds am appointment this week and doing a 4 hour drive after (trying to get someplace in time for a 4:30pm start, with my 2 kids). If I felt like I were handling life better, I would've cancelled.

It's like a 3 hour difference between leaving at 6am and leaving at 9am? How much does that impact your day?

I don't know anything about transporting a horse, but I'm guessing it won't be waiting for her in the parking lot of her therapist's office and that it takes some time/effort to do all the things related to getting a horse ready for travel, along with trailer. And a 7 hour drive one way is 14 hours round trip, not including all the loading/unloading, etc. So I can see how starting some hours later because of therapy would push everything into the early hours of the next day.

I would skip the appt, but maybe see if you can touch base some other way, if you need to. Does your therapist email or text?
Thanks for this!

He's not much good at email, he tends to say lame things like "thanks for sharing this". I can text if I let the horse owner drive with the horse on board. I may wait until the trailer is empty before having him drive. I don't care if the truck/trailer get hurt but I would hate for the horse to get hurt.

Texting may work. There is the obvious limitation of him only responding between clients and that not aligning with when I can text.

I am assuming the horse owner can leave earlier; I guess a first step would be to see if that would even work for him.
