My daughter had an excellent psychologist last semester but then that pilot program got closed down and she couldn't see my daughter anymore.
My daughter likes my therapist but my therapist doesn't want my individual therapy to turn into family therapy. I like my therapist's attitude. I used to have a real big problem with james Dobson's family values so I'm glad I have another therapist who supports me. My therapist is going to hook me up with a psychiatrist to do an evaluation of my daughter as the one her doctor referred me to totally failed. I'm going to talk to my therapist about giving her the MMPI-A. My former therapist said I might be raising a narcissist but now it looks like I might be raising a bipolar. My therapist thinks she has bipolar. Her father, her uncle and her cousin all have bipolar.

So I have a list of my therapists my daughter's last therapist handed to me that are in our network, plus I have another list that a woman sent me who came to my daughter's school and runs a program for teenagers.

I'm exhausted.

I haven't called anybody yet, but now I know what I'm looking for, a psychiatric evaluation and a personality test.

I am sorry to hear that your daughter is facing such challenges. I hope you are able to find answers for her. In my experience it was a psychologist who diagnosed me after doing extensive testing. My pdoc had a working diagnosis which is only one part of my issues.
Thanks for this!

Usually a psychologist is the one to do comprehensive testing, such as a neuropsychological exam (incredibly in depth and takes a couple of hours). A psychiatrist will do an evaluation but it won't be as in depth as a neuropsych. Why did your former therapist think your daughter might be a narcissist? I know you're thinking bipolar now but I'm just curious what prompted the T to make that comment since it's a strong statement to make about a kid or young adult.

I'm not really comfortable going into detail in public. I've since learned that the mania phase of bipolar looks like narcissism. I'm not sure that a neuropsychological exam will be necessary. She needs a simple psychiatric evaluation. The clinic was only able to provide her with a 30 min appointment with a pediatric psychiatrist and since her affect is not depressed and she goes to school he could not help her. I had an IEP done for in her 4th grade and she did not meet diagnostic levels for any disorders although she had traits that brought her close. Thanks for reading.
