I noticed there are some older threads about emotional freedom technique so I thought I'd start a current one.

One of my therapists gave me a 30 day membership to an EFT site and the last time I saw her she said I seemed calmer. Well, I find EFT exhausting. The last two times I tried to do it my daughter was home and wanted my attention. Today she's not home and I just don't have it in me, however I suppose I should try.

Has anyone else with PTSD tried EFT and found it totally draining?

I tried it many times with one therapist I saw, and I felt nothing from it.

I'm not heard of that. Is it similar to yoga? I could Google it but thought I'd ask instead.

It is acupressure, self induced, tapping on acupressure points to relieve emotional strain.

OH!! My counselor has introduced me to "tapping" and it helps me come back or calm down when I am hyper activated/triggered.

I've tried it on my own at home and I can kind of feel a mor calming sense, but if I'm in session and I'm triggered, he can walk me through the steps and it's totally different.

Not sure what to make of that. It's probably my trust in him, or just the place I'm at.

I am sure it helped me process my emotions, but I did not prepare for my session today so I did not do it. The sessions I do online are 90 minutes and they are incredibly taxing. They are recorded so I could do it later. I'm not sure I feel up to it. Some of the people on the tapping circle are way too emotive for me, they make animal, guttural sounds that come across as sexual. I don't really like that. I have read that meditation is triggering for those with trauma, I'm guessing that EFT is triggering for those with

When I do the tapping with my counselor, there are no sounds or emotions. It is kind of like a routine. I don't understand why or how it helps but I just go through the steps and it does help me.

I hope that encourages you. I'm a very private emotion person and I can understand why you would feel uncomfortable with what you described. That would distress me. I just deep breathe and go through the steps and it helps me.

First T liked it. I read about it and found a study that said the same effects were found when participants were tapping on dolls. I showed the study to T1 and he said he wished he'd never seen it and found it triggering because it worked on him (he had no training in it or anything).
Not sure what was worse, him wanting me to do something purely on the basis it worked for him, but with zero evidence it actually works and zero training in it, or that he accused me of triggering him (he did that more than once).

That is interesting. I could do the circle now as it was recorded. I might do it later. It takes 90 min and that's a lot of time.

Here is a link to a diagram for the points that my counselor showed me.

http://www.emofree.com/eft-tutorial/...to-do-eft.html

My counselor walks me through the points and I just focus on my breathing. It probably takes about 5 minutes or maybe a bit longer. I don't the science behind it but I do know it helps to calm me. One thing that I thought was interesting - I've always had a habit of tapping my upper lip when I felt stressed, or just putting pressure on it. Never knew there was a reason behind it.

Yes I know the points, I think it's the breathing out that gets to me and I think it's a

Oh wow! That just made the hair on my arms stand up. I've felt self conscious about that myself and have not understood why. It resonated with me. Thank you for saying that.

You're welcome, it's probably not the best modality for me.
