Warning. . .this is a funny thread about psychotherapy. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't post!!

Ok. . .so on Starz! this afternoon is the movie, "What about Bob." I am sitting here dying laughing over this. Talk about transference.

For anyone who's seen the movie, what parts can you relate to?

I think my favorite part so far is when Bob makes it to Dr. Marvin's vacation spot and he's like, "Gimme gimme gimme, I need I need I need I need."

Hahahaaa Are you a "Bob" kind of patient? Are you a "Bob" kind of patient? Are you a "Bob" kind of patient?

I *LOVE* that movie! For me it was kind of validating that Bob had more of a relationship with the shrink's family than the shrink did. Dr. Marvin could have stood to be less worried about his prestige.

But really, I love the whole movie! And can I pose a related question? Has anybody tried to watch "What About Bob" with someone who's never been in therapy? I tried to get my sister to watch it and she quit 10 minutes into it, saying she thought it was stupid and couldn't get into it. But everyone I know who's ever seen a T has thought it was hysterical!

I love the move "what about Bob". Makes me laff sooo hard every time i see it. And i know i have seen it 20 or more times.
I love the fact that Bob, who had issues, turned out ok and the shrink went nuts. I also loved seeing the shrink oh so flustered over the things Bob did. Just a great move..

I love this movie! I own it! I didn't see it til I was in therapy a while. I make reference to it a lot with my roommate (she's a psych major, thinks it's hilarious). We quote a lot from the movie. We laughed really hard when "State of Mind" came on and they were talking about Bob and Ann Bellows said "What about Bob?"

I think it was hilarious how Bob ended up marrying Lilly, Dr. Marvins sister. Talk about going waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the ethical boundaries.

I like when he gets on the bus and goes, "Hello, I'm Bob. Would you knock me out please? Just hit me in the face." hahahaaa

I LOVE this movie too. My husband and I were fans of this movie long before I entered therapy....

I think my favorite aspect is how much Dr. Marvin's family wound up loving Bob. And whenever we are stressed we say "baby steps" to each other!!!

It's the perfect time for this movie, with T on vacation. Hahahahaha

Thanks for the laugh, I neeed it!!!!

From what I hear, most all people who go to therapists who love this movie. I bought it for my flight out recently to NM... and then, when trapped inside my tent with another person during a t storm, played it again to watch.

Very interesting question, what makes it funny and all for me, individually. Are you a "Bob" kind of patient?

I loved this movie! Laughed my you-know-what off!

After working with Ts and pdocs for so long, if they or one of their relatives asked me to marry them I would run like the wind!!! In the opposite direction...

I'd love to have my pdoc as a brother-in-law! How did you know?

I thought it was funny how the Dr. tired using psychotherapy on his kids - could you believe those puppets? And don't you just love Bob's take on everything (Death Therapy of all things). And that couple who hated the Dr and were helping Bob. And Bob becomes a professional in the field and the Dr gets jealous. lol Go Bob!

Too many funny things. However, I think I thought it was funnier before I went into therapy. I still think it's funny though. It's just different.

Personally. . .I"d be scared to death of a psychologist like Bob. Are you a "Bob" kind of patient?

I read recently that GA graduates a larger number of PHD Psychology degress than any other state in the country. Yet, we have the *fewest licensed* psychologists. When I was finishing grad school, we had to go through 65 hours of therapy. . .and I'm just a social worker!! I wonder how many folks go through college, get the degree, and then can't *pass* therapy?

Scary. . . . scary

as usual with classic cult comedies it has been liberated from local rental store (non chain small mom and pop) and w/o cable have to wait for next viewing to be kismet. ; )

Bill Murray has such a way w/ the material.

Thank you for the giggles. btw no way would that type of marrying in to therapist's family appeal here! yikes and then some!! to each their own we say.....

youse funny Gracey! Are you a "Bob" kind of patient?

I have 2 therapists in my family. One is an adult therapist and one is children's therapist. The one that is the children's therapist is so very clueless about her kids its scary. My Grandma told them 2 Christmases ago that if she couldn't control her kids she was no longer welcome in her home. I just sat there and chuckled to myself. The one that is an adult therapist I don't like much because I went to him for therapy a couple of times and then got icky about it and now feel he is watching me all the time.

Wanting to marry into a therapists family isn't all its cracked up to be.
