So I terminated with my current t yesterday and I feel so much guilt. She had known since July that I was moving 90 minutes away this weekend and I had thought she knew I would be terminating (my first mistake). So at our last session I asked her to write what we have talked about over the past year and she became confused. I said that I thought she knew this was our last session. She did. Now I feel so much guilt over doing that to her after she has been so nice to me. I guess she assumed I would still keep coming despite the long distance.
To clarify: I feel bad not making sure she knew earlier. |

This is a business relationship, not a personal friendship. I don't mean to sound cold and harsh, but that's what it really is so you shouldn't feel guilty about terminating because of the distance.

You didn't do anything TO her; you simply terminated, which is something all clients do.

Honestly i think thats a class they all take - never presume the client is leaving, even if they move to the moon. Maybe because they are listening for us to say the exact words, "I AM LEAVING YOU BEHIND." Ordinarily, of course a normal person in a normal relationship would understand, but all of a sudden ooh they get all therapisty on us. Its happened to me more than once, and i really do bet there is a class on "transitions and how to make the most of them". But its weird cuz all of a sudden they have a script to follow and that they want us to follow.
