So, my pdoc and T work in the same office. I already quit therapy because I was so frustrated with my T. He talked about himself a lot as well as his girlfriend, and one time when I said my room was a mess, he said he keeps his room and bed clean so he can masturbate. I found that highly inappropriate. He also seemed to dismiss my concerns whenever I brought up depression, hypo/mania, etc.. Not cool.

I want to start therapy again, but I'm very nervous. There's a T in the same office who specializes in exactly what I want (bipolar, ADHD, and personality disorders), and I really want her to be my therapist. However, I'm a bit anxious that my former T will find out I switched T's.

I left a message at the front desk, and I hope they call me back soon. Wish me luck

Has anyone else had this experience?

Good luck!

Why are you anxious about your former T finding out?

That sounds terrible... I recently decided to switch t. He was great, but I needed to switch for some reason. He told me that how therapist feels does not matter, so I should not feel obliged to make another appointment and I am free to try several ts until I find someone who I can feel comfortable to work with. Good luck!
Thanks for this!

Thanks guys

I'm certainly nervous about my T finding out. I know I shouldn't care, but I'm just nervous he's going to say something to my new T behind my back.

Well, this is all assuming this T is willing to take in new patients. I'm not sure she is, but I hope so. I'll find out within 2 business days!

I also know that my pdoc is going to ask WHY I haven't been going to therapy, but I don't want to say why because I don't want to get caught in a potential crossfire.

Is there another clinic that you could go to? I can see why you would want to avoid some one like ex t. And I think for me it would be useful to be able to tell new t why I was switching. That said, I think ex t ought to be called out for telling a client that he masturbates. Totally inappropriate.

Not really, no.

I'm just afraid if I tell my new T why I switched, she'll tell someone in the office about it, and I don't want to stir up trouble. I don't want to be involved, and possibly have to help them write up a report or something. Do you think that would happen?
