So I just got my referral to be referred for treatment again today at the VA. I asked if they had any CBT or CBSST classes. As I expected they didn't have CBSST which I was hoping for. I have done their DBT group class before and it helped but I didn't think it really applied to my situation now. In the past I have only done CBT in a group but they said it would be one on one with a therapist. They gave a strange look when I asked if they had a group. I'm a bit nervous for this to be just me and the therapist as I do not usually do well in that type of setting. Is CBT usually one on one??? And does anyone have any tips on reducing my anxiety for being face to face? I'm awaiting a call to tell me when I can schedule an appointment or for them to tell me when to come/ and with whom I will be meeting. NERVOUS NERVOUS!

I'm only on session 2 of CBT 1:1. It's strange but my Psychologist I'd really nice and makes you feel at ease. She is a trainee so sometimes her boss will sit in on sessions. I see her every 2 weeks and that works for me. I know how stressed out you must feel but it's a good thing :-)

I've only ever done CBT one on one.

My tips are to pull out DBT skills. (DBT is my favorite, most used, life changing therapy.) Check the facts on what the catastrophe would be and how you would cope. Search on this forum "helpful" and "CBT". Distract when your worries get overwhelming by doing pleasant activities. Do mindful breathing and focus just on your breath to reduce your body's arousal.

I did CBT one on one and I LOVED it!

It was at an anxiety institute where most of the therapists did CBT. I wish I could find something even remotely like that place where I live now... I'd go there in a heartbeat!

Really, it was just like going to a one on one tutor. White board and all, lol.
Thanks for this!
