I'm so upset right now that I'm having mild panic attacks because of the stress. I owe thousands of dollars for the hospital bill, charges for the psychiatrist who only talked to me for 3-4 minutes a day while I was there. Plus the ambulance bill is huge. And keep in mind, none of this was necessary and was all due to Ts false assumptions and he barely even saw me the day that I was ambushed much less to see that I was stable.

I'm so upset!!!

I'm sorry Hope. Can you call and set up a payment plan? Most of the time places will work with people.
Thanks for this!

Some hospitals may offer reduced costs/community funded care. Before I left the hospital from asthma a rep came to visit me and gave me her card. Can you speak to someone in finance at the hospital about your situation?
Thanks for this!

Didn't they release you with no therapist and no medications? Get your lawyer to threaten to sue them for that, and maybe the bills will go away.
Thanks for this!

Many hospitals can reduce what you owe if their is financial hardship, and they will work out a manageable payment plan. (I live in the world of constantly paying off medical expenses.) Many of my daughter-in-laws own hospital bills have been taken care of through grant programs the hospital has to help people who cannot pay.
Thanks for this!

I've had the hospital write-off bills as big as surgery with a 3 day admission when I was uninsured. That was before the ACA which did change how they run their charity care program but it still exists for people who are low-income and uninsured/poorly insured. When I qualified they covered all my medical care for nearly 3 years and all I did was fill out a form every 3 months (they covered my pdoc, labs, the doctor before and after my surgery, surgery, etc). They also have a finance program with 0% interest and probably other things I don't know about. Definitely call the billing people and tell them you can't pay what they are asking.

I never pay medical bills but mine weren't large amounts. They negatively affect your credit for a few years but go away even if left unpaid

Seriously? Wow! I'd love to give that a try...lol my credit already sucks. Do they go through the whole collection agency thing, then just drop it?
