Growing up I always had too much to think about.
I only got enough dinner money for two days, so had no choice but to walk home and prepare something there. I also used money for other things teenagers need.
So I missed out on valuable time with friends.
I shared a room with a sibling till I was fourteen, they were of the opposite sex.
Pocket money was non-existent.
My parents went out drinking at least four times a night some weeks.
They weren't there for us a lot of the time. (But I know affluent kids have parents who work all the time. But we had no money or a good, solid relationship)
When my first year English teacher told my parent : ".....is definitely university material, you better start saving now"
They came home and told me then replied thinking they were hard ;" You can F&*k off to the forces and IF they think you are good enough, IF, they will pay to put you through a degree, cause we have put a roof over your head all these years."
