I am getting ready to do inner child work with my therapist. Have any of you ever gone through it? Was it difficult? Did it help?
I'm nervous because I have a feeling this work will bring up more feelings than any other work I've done. I have a huge wall up especially with people who want to express care and concern and it's all due to my mom and experiences in my childhood. My T. is hoping doing this work will take down the wall and open me up to others. |

Not specifically and I'm not sure what it entails , but I think the inner child gets touched on. I have walls up for those reasons too , but I have improved and people get inside the walls sometimes and I'm better at accepting care and concern. It's hard work though !

We don't use the concept exactly, but a good deal of child feelings do emerge in my therapy. I can feel, talk, act quite young. Repressed and dissociated memories and feelings arise.
My walls are mostly crumbled but I am trying to build some back up. Before this therapy, my walls came down; it was more like a wrecking ball knocked them down. Pleasant child feelings come out too, so don't forget about that. I feel childlike love feelings for T. |

IFS is about parts, and they are often children. I learned a lot about myself doing that kind of work. It can be hard, but worthwhile, at least for me.
