You know I was reading about Gilman's psychiatrist (S Weir Mitchell) the other day - he sounds dreadful.

And then I read about Sylvia Plath's psychiatrist (Ruth Barnhouse). Lot of loose boundaries there.

Eta, for anais: The Yellow Wallpaper. Recommended.

Oohh hmm I have somehow never heard of that.

My grandmother complained of the same thing, the patterns moving around. I've always had it. I remember when I was little it used to make me cry. I'm glad wallpaper and small patterns in general are out of fashion.

I get the pattern thing too. Sometimes it's like motion sickness and it makes me nauseous and sometimes it like a hypnosis effect, but disturbing. I thought I was the only one, I am sorry you are troubled with it too.

Exactly, it feels a lot like vertigo. Actually while I was there I tripped and fell over a few times. My friend was really weirded out. Glad I am not the only one.

Maybe you have astigmatism. I keep trying to diagnose stopdog with it, as to why she doesnt like the smilies, especially the blinky ones. Or a mild epilepsy.

I made a countdown widget for my iPhone- to keep track of the days I have left to see t again. 18 days.

I get zero money for financial aid for school.. because the year they are going by was our best year financially.. now, not so much. Anybody for 25 thousand laying around?

Happy Birthday to me?

Hi couch,

I finally bit the bullet and contacted a private practice clinic about doing a full psychological assessment for mental health and to see if I'm on the autism spectrum.

My anxiety disorders were REALLY hastily diagnosed in one brief interview each 4 years ago, and I don't feel anxiety fits everything going on with me even though I do score (repeatedly over the past few years) as having severe, pervasive social anxiety disorder on clinically valid tests like the liebowitz social anxiety scale.

I've had psychiatrists and doctors laugh about how I'm too cheerful to possibly have depression or dysthymia but I know I scored as depressed on a PHQ 9 I was given by a psychologist to do... and honestly I do think I have some dysthymia...though I worry I sound like a hypochondriac.

And I've long wondered if I was on the autism spectrum, or at least meet some traits.

T is a PhD but doesn't want to assess me, I'm fed up of not being taken seriously. My partner works with kids and teens with autism / aspergers and says I don't have it but we're LDR omg and he doesn't see me in offline social settings...and anyway I just want to put my mind at ease by getting an official answer. I know he and my psych think my social difficulties and sense of alienation come from child abuse but...my younger brother was abused too and doesn't have my social difficulties...

ETA: Have any of you done a psychological assessment? How was it like?

Happy Birthday, Healed!

QM, I think it's great that you're having a full assessment done. I've considered doing the same, but am unsure whether or not I'd like the answer. I'll admit that I have an opinion on whether or not you have an ASD, but I'm biased and have little data to actually back up my assertion. I'll be interested to see what your evaluation says.

My alarm goes off in an hour and a half. For all intents and purposes, my summer is over. I'm attending 3 professional development days this week at school, and next week I'm going to a conference Tuesday-Friday. I go back to work officially on the 31st.

If I'm still here next year, can someone remind me to actually attempt to enjoy my summer?
