I have posted a couple days ago, my therapist of 7 years told me a week ago that therapy must end in 6 month because of my attachment style co-dependent and we are doing phone counseling and 1x month face to face (Germany to Uk) she feels I am not getting enough and she provide me this- dang !!
She old me just 3 month ago I can end the session and she will be always open this space as a welcoming space, I feel hurt and disappointed and was doing not so bad. Wanting to go from October 2 a month and eventually stop in one year. So I am thinking writing her an Email telling her to reconsider as I am running so low, waking up triggered with anxiety and feel overwhelmed finding a new therapist. Do you guys feel I can try? I have a right to say my feeling and ask to extent it for one year, that would feel for me like I would be in charge. Any input would be helpful |

I used to think I had no right to having my wants met and it was wrong to have wants. Now, I am a person who always ask for what she needs and wants (as long as my wants are in reason), but I do prepare myself that the answer may be no or modified from what I originally requested.
There is no harm whatsoever in asking for an extension. I would suggest you prepare how you will handle an answer other than what you want. *by reason I ask myself the question: if the shoe were on the other foot would I do it for them. And, sometimes I just put it out there. |

I don't know all the details, but the client should always be in charge, unless they are severely impaired or unstable. I would guess that your therapist thinks she is somewhat like a doctor, and thus in charge of your "case" and your "treatment" and therefore must decide what is best for you. This must be challenged in my opinion as it is infantilizing, irrational, dysfunctional.

I think you can ask for anything you want. It's worth a question.
