Does anyone have a recommendation as to how to go about finding a good therapist/mental health practice? The original place my husband was going (which is an hour away but in a more rural area) finally replaced the therapist he liked, but that doesn't necessarily mean he/she has the right experience.

My husband has schizoaffective disorder bipolar type.
He was hospitalized 5 times over the past year and a half.
He built a pretty good relationship with his therapist and then she made a career change last December.
He transitioned to a new small practice and really didn't seem to be getting anywhere with his new therapist.

After his latest hospitalization, due to the frequency, the social worker and doctors recommended he go somewhere with higher levels of care, not residential..So he ended up in the city at a place where he has been attending a mental health and wellness group 3 times a week. They are supposed to be hooking him up with an individual therapist "quickly." It has been 6 weeks and every time I check in, they say they are working as quickly as possible.

This group is occupying his time, but certainly is not his "thing." He's not great in groups AND it consists mostly of people who have depression (not hallucinations and a mood disorder). He (and I) feel that he is being treated as a number at this place. It's just too big. He will continue to go to group there to occupy his time for now...and although the therapist is "right around the corner" and we have waited this long, I'm not sure that this is the right practice for him. I'm not entirely pleased that he has been without a therapist for this long. Also--he is seeing a p-doc at the practice.

He is accustomed to going to a place where he sees a therapist and psychiatrist in one location and they speak with one another. I have googled a bit and it seems difficult to determine which practices have these options. Also--most people's bios and websites do not specifically name disorders such as schizoaffective. SOME name bipolar....I have seen nothing with schizophrenia.

Have you tried looking at psychologytoday.com? That's where I found my T. I don't think they state whether there's a pdoc in their office too, but they will state what disorders they treat.

I was just looking on that site the other day and wondering if it was a good resource. A few phone calls probably wouldn't hurt.
